Perhaps it gave you an idea you hadn’t considered before, or helped you visualize a direction you were having trouble putting into words. You may have also discovered that while AI can create an impressive image, getting it to understand the realities of your home can be a little more complicated.
If you’ve explored AI for home design, you’ve probably seen both sides of it. It can be exciting and surprisingly helpful, while also having its limitations.
But we believe there is real value in what these tools can offer. AI can help homeowners explore layouts, styles, colors, materials, and design ideas that may have been difficult to visualize before. It can be another way to begin defining what you want your home to look and feel like.
And that is something homeowners have been doing for years.
Inspiration has always been part of the remodeling process. Maybe it’s a Pinterest board, a collection of Houzz photos, a magazine clipping, a kitchen you saw at a friend’s house, or a sketch you made on a piece of paper. AI is simply becoming another tool homeowners can use to explore ideas and communicate their vision.
From AI Design to an Actual Remodel
As AI continues to evolve, homeowners will have more opportunities to participate in the design process. Some clients may come to us with little more than an idea. Others may arrive with AI-generated concepts they’ve spent hours developing and refining. We’re comfortable with both. What matters is understanding the difference between creating a design concept and determining how that concept will actually work in your home.
An AI-generated rendering can look remarkably complete, but an image alone doesn't account for everything required to turn an idea into a real, functioning space. The existing conditions of your home, its dimensions and structure, mechanical systems, materials, selections, budget, building codes, and countless other decisions all have to come together. A beautiful concept still needs to be thoughtfully designed, planned, and built.
This is one of the reasons we believe the connection between design and construction is so important. What If You Don’t Want to Use AI?
That’s completely fine, too. You don’t need to use AI to work with us, and we aren’t interested in using technology simply because it is the newest thing available. What we are interested in is finding better ways to serve our clients.
AI is changing quickly, and we believe it will become an increasingly useful part of home design and remodeling. As these tools continue to improve, we’ll keep learning, testing, and evaluating how they can genuinely add value to the Design + Build experience. The tools will continue to change, but the fundamentals of a successful remodeling project will not.
